The Late Show host Stephen Colbert is teaming up with Amy Sedaris and Paul Dinello for a one-off reunion as part of the 2025 New York Comedy Festival. They will make an appearance at New York City’s Town Hall on Saturday, Nov. 8 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the cancellation of their 1999–2000 Comedy Central series.
The 30-episode sitcom, Strangers With Candy, ran for three seasons and had a movie prequel. The show follows the tales of a 46-year-old high school freshman Jerri Blank, played by Sedaris, a closeted history teacher Chuck Noblet, played by Colbert, and his love, an art teacher named Geoffrey Jellineck, played by Dinello.
Comedy Central was under new leadership by the end of the third season in October 2000.
“They have never officially told us that the show has been canceled. We kind of knew it. We wanted to go out; we wanted a final episode because usually Comedy Central does things in three seasons, so we kind of figured we had three seasons. The last episode we wrote assuming that the show was going to get canceled, so that’s why we went out with that,” said Sedaris.

But the show continues to entertain comedy fans.
“If someone says, ‘I really like Strangers with Candy,’ I usually say, ‘I didn’t know you were mentally disturbed.’ Our fan base is deeply troubled,” said Jack Antonoff during an appearance on The Late Show with Colbert. “And I’m happy for them, because I’m deeply troubled too.”
The announcement of the reunion comes as Colbert steps down from his role at The Late Show. The show was cancelled by CBS after announcing financial distress at the company.
