When Jade Goody died in March 2009, seven months after being diagnosed with cervical cancer, she left behind an incredible legacy for her sons, after dedicating the end of her life to securing their future.

Jade, who was mum to Freddy and Bobby, who were four and five years old when she died, left her £3million fortune to her boys in trust  – having expressed her wish that their father Jeff Brazier use some of the money to give them a private education.

However Jade’s ex-husband Jack Tweed has previously claimed that her beloved sons did not benefit as much as Jade would have wanted, despite her working hard throughout her cancer treatment to help build up a pot of cash for them.

While Bobby, now 22, has EastEnders acting success and a Strictly stint under his belt in recent years, Freddy, 20, has endured more challenging teenage years.

He revealed last month that he got hooked on cannabis at just 12 years old, but is now determined to turn his life around after his model ex-girlfriend fell pregnant.

But some mystery surrounds whether he is set for any kind of financial boost as he prepares to become a dad for the first time.

Speaking in 2014 about his ex-partner’s death Jeff confirmed that she had worked through her treatment to help provide for their futures.

When Jade secured a deal for £700,000 with OK! magazine to feature her wedding to Jack, it was all part of her goal to make as much money as possible for her boys.

Jeff previously said: ‘The first thing she did was work out how much it would cost to put the boys through private education until they were 16. The answer was £260,000.

‘In her last months that was what drove her on, even when she was so weak and in terrible pain. It was all that mattered to her.

‘She so desperately wanted them to have the upbringing she had never had.’

Two years after her death in In 2011, it was reported that Jade’s £3milion estate had taken a huge hit due to a £1.8million tax bill.

It came after she allegedly didn’t pay any income tax for the last four years of her life.

Jeff said there were later more tax issues due to her beauty salon in Essex.

‘I know it’s all a mess. The trouble with Jade, as I know only too well, was that she wasn’t good at taking advice,’ he said.

‘If you tried to tell her something it would go in one ear and out the other.’

Ultimately, Freddy attended a state school, which was better suited to his needs due to his ADHD, while Bobby attended fee-paying school Bishop’s Stortford College.

‘It would have broken Jade if she’d known,’ her widower Jack told The Sun in an interview to mark ten years since her death. ‘She’d be devastated. I’ve never been able to get my head around it.’

Jack claimed that he should have paid closer attention as a named beneficiary of her estate.

His will provided that Jack could serve as a ‘conduit’ for her children’s inheritance to avoid inheritance tax, allowing him to pass funds to the trusts set up for the boys.

He claimed that he had passed his share of the money from the OK! wedding deal to the trustees to fund the boys’ education and was heartbroken that so much of it had been taken by the taxman.

He said: ‘I don’t want to accuse anyone because I don’t know the full story but something doesn’t seem right. Something doesn’t add up.

‘I probably should have been more involved with the money situation, seeing where it all went and making sure the kids got it and it didn’t get wasted by anyone. But it didn’t feel right for me to get involved in that at the time.’

Despite Jack’s claims about the huge tax bill, in 2019 Jade’s mum Jackiey Budden claimed there was still a substantial amount for Bobby and Freddy’s education.

She said: ‘There is money for the boys in a trust. Bobby’s private education is still paid for by Jade’s money.

‘Freddy goes to a state school and loves it – the money would be there if he was to go to private school. There was enough to provide for the boys. I think they’ll get it when they’re 18 or 21.’

When Jade died Jack only inherited her car, which was valued at about £16,000.

According to The Mirror, Jack subsequently claimed that before her death she had tried to ‘buy him a flat’ and split the money they’d earned for their wedding magazine shoot.

But he said: ‘I didn’t take a penny from her. Nothing. She was lying in the hospital bed trying to buy me a flat. I told her no.

‘She wanted to make sure I was alright. She knew I was young. She knew I loved her to absolute pieces. And she knew if she wasn’t there I wouldn’t know what to do.’

Things are about to get even more challenging for the family as it’s been revealed Freddy is now expecting a baby with his ex-girlfriend.

With sources saying Jeff is ‘supportive’ of his son’s baby news, it has led to a dramatic U-turn in relations between them, which had become increasingly strained.

Freddy had been embroiled in a high profile battle with his father, after he launched legal action in a bid to prevent the aspiring model from seeing his grandmother, Jade’s mum Jackiey.

And Jeff appeared to hint at the drastic changes coming to his household in a cryptic Instagram post on Sunday, asking his followers for a ‘parenting guidebook’ on ‘unconventional early adult years.’

He wrote: ‘If someone could send me that parenting guidebook, particularly ‘early adult years the unconventional path’ that would be really helpful, thanks [kiss emoji and laughing emoji].’

Jeff is said to be ‘extremely supportive’ alongside other close family and friends who have vowed to help him in any way they can.

The baby news will also delight the millions who fell in love with Freddy when he and his father appeared on Celebrity Race Across the World last year.

The pair were seen arguing about his and brother Bobby’s upbringing during the 30-day trek.

In one scene Jeff stormed off after Freddy claimed they were ‘not open’ as a family, prompting his father to reply: ‘What have I done for the last seven or eight years. You need to take responsibility, that is part of this.’

A friend told The Mail on Sunday of Freddy: ‘It has blindsided him and has been one of the things that has really brought him and his dad back together but it’s so devastating that Jade isn’t here to see it.

‘Jeff was one of the first people he decide to confide in to ask for advice, and he stepped up straight away and wanted to help in any way he could.’

The couple’s brief relationship is understood to have ended acrimoniously following a string of rows – which even saw each of them make allegations to the police.

But they have since discussed reconciling their differences if possible, if they are to become parents together.

Freddy has endured a turbulent few weeks following a high profile battle with his father over the last six months – who had launched legal action in a bid to prevent the aspiring model from seeing his grandmother, Jade’s mum Jackiey.

Recently in a bombshell U-turn, Freddy accused his grandmother of getting him hooked on strong cannabis when he was just 12 – having previously insisted she had never been responsible for his drug use.

But on his new podcast, he said: ‘My nan is definitely the person who introduced me to reefer and got me hooked. It’s one of those things, I was 12.

‘I’ve been smoking since I was 12, I’ve been to rehab, I’ve been sectioned, I’ve had manic episodes, I’ve been sectioned. There’s been a real journey and it’s been a tough one.’

His comments prompted Jackiey to blast back, insisting she is not responsible for his cannabis use.

She said: ‘I’ve read all these things he’s said about me and I just can’t believe he’d say them. It just isn’t true at all – I can’t believe it.’

Jeff has openly detailed the ‘difficult’ journey of raising Bobby and Freddy since Jade’s death in 2009, particularly as they both became teenagers.

Emphasising the importance of communication, he said on Loose Men: ‘I think it’s a lot for parents to have to navigate on a daily basis.’

In a 2023 Q&A with fans, Jeff added that he would ‘do things differently’ as a parent if he were given a second chance.
