“I have brought all your kids for you. Since you left for your Nysc you have refused to call us, or even ask how we are faring, so this is where you are? While me and my kids are suffering in the village? Nneka asked John “ you no longer pick my calls John? What did we do to deserve all this? “ John was shocked
to find Nneka by his door, where he was doing his Nysc primary assignment.
“you told me to be patient, how can I be patient when you don’t care about us anymore? I can no longer be patient. You have abandoned us to suffer? I have come to stay here with you and our children , and I am going no where. “
Nneka said to John as she moved her luggages into his apartment, where he was doing his Nysc primary assignment, in Calabar. Calm down Nne John said to her.
“ Baby Who was that ? She’’s my sister John’s girlfriend had asked him from the bathroom immediately she heard Nneka’s voice from the bathroom crying.
“Who are these kids?” His girlfriend asked him, as she walked into the room, they are my sister’s kids, “ who is your sister? Nneka snapped at him, John begged her to keep quiet
with signs. And dragged her out side the house
to talk to her.
What is your problem? Do you want to spoil things for me? Can’t you understand simple things?
Nneka asked him, what have i done to deserve all this? After everything that I have done for you ? She sobs and this is how you pay me? She started crying
.
John and Nneka met when they were teenagers in the village, John had always had the dream of becoming an educated man, living in big cities and working in a big organization, despite having Nneka by his side it didn’t stop him, before John could finish his secondary education, Nneka had became pregnant
, John had told her to abor$t the child and let them focus on finishing their education first but Nneka didn’t agree with him, she went ahead to birth their first child.
John and Nneka continued their relationship until John got admission to study Law at the University, Nneka became pregnant again and gave birth to their second child. Nneka was very supportive to him, John made sure that he graduated from university, she went into buying and selling of okirika clothes to support her boyfriend John and the kids.
As John struggled to juggle school and fatherhood, despite not coming from the have nots family, but it’s been very difficult for him, Nneka was there for him through out.
Luckily for him he was able to graduate from the university, he headed straight to Law school, after his Law School he proceeded to do his Nysc in Calabar.
Nneka had used her last savings to help John clear all his debts and proceed to the Nysc.
When John got to the Nysc camp
, he called Nneka and the kids, told them that he was fine. Inside the camp John competed for the Mr Nysc and he won
the competition. He became on top of the world.
That was when girls started flocking around him, every girl wanted to have a taste of John, and he couldn’t hold himself, he knew he was a fine man.
John also became so full of himself, he forgot home
and how Nneka had struggled with him for years, each time Nneka calls him on the phone, he would give all sorts of excuses, “I will call you back” is what he normally tells Nneka. For months Nneka has been struggling to take care of herself and the kids.
Nneka became so tired of his excuses and decided to pay him a visit since Calabar is not far from Aba , John had told her where his primary assignment was located at before. Without informing him , that morning Nneka parked her bags, got her kids ready , took a bus to Calabar to look for John.
When she arrived at his primary assignment office unannounced with the address John had given her initially, she asked for John, but they told her that John didn’t come to work that day, someone had directed her to John’s lodge.
John was very shocked to see her and the kids, “what are you doing here?” He asked Nneka , “ I have come to see my husband with his kids?” Which husband? Who is your husband? John questioned Nneka, he couldn’t believe his eyes as Nneka came prepared to live with him in Calaber.
Unfortunately for her, John was already cohabiting with a girl named Amy, who had promised him heaven on earth
, she had told John that after their service she was going to get a job for him in her father’s company.
John didn’t know what to do, he had to take Nneka to one corner outside the house to explain things for her, but Nneka was not willing to play along, finally Nneka agreed on if John will provide a place for her in Calabar, as for going back to the village? She said she is not going back there. Unless both of them will leave Calaber.
John was confused as he doesn’t know what else to do, he had to beg his neighbor to accommodate Nneka and the kids first for a few days, before he can think of something else. Nneka accepted to stay there only for some nights for John to fix himself.
As Nneka moved into John’s neighbor’s apartment, the guy felt pity for her, he asked her few questions on the third night “ why are you disturbing your self about a man who doesn’t care about you? Do you know that you are a very beautiful woman? Nneka stared at him and was very quiet
, the guy asked him again “what qualifications do you have?”
Nneka told him that she didn’t go to school, that she was only doing business, buying and selling of okirika clothes and now , she doesn’t even have money again to continue her business as her savings were drained from supporting John.
After two days, the neighbor ask Nneka if she can stay for few more days? Nneka was surprise , John’s neighbor told her that he doesn’t want her to fight John again but to have a life of her own, with confidence, Nneka asked her how? Because she was tired of the whole situation, even in the village people were gossiping and mocking me about how John had used her and dumped her with kids.
The neighbor said to Nneka, “I have watched you these few days, you are a good girl, you keep my house clean, still take care of yourself and your kids, and you are humble and funny” “What do you want for your self aside having John ?” He asked her, Nneka started crying, I don’t have money, and I have lost both my parents now, no one to help me. I am depressed and frustrated, i and my two siblings are suffering in the village.
John’s neighbor asked her, “ what if I rent a place for you and your kids will you be happy, and you will learn a skill now? Because you can’t continue to stay in my house? You can learn fashion or beauty business or anything? “ I am going to pay for it?
Nneka nodded and said that will be fine by her, that she is grateful.
John’s neighbor got a place for Nneka in Calaber, payed 1 year rent for her, and registered her in a fashion designing school. Nneka was so happy and grateful. Thank you Larry as she hugged him, Larry started feeling something for her.
Nneka told John that she was ready to go back Aba, John was very happy to see her off with the kids. Immediately John waved them goodbye
, Nneka stepped down from the bus with her kids, and went straight to the house
John’s neighbor had paid for her stay with her kids. The kids were registered at a close by school. Larry made sure, they lacked nothing.
She started her journey in the fashion school, in calabar, John’s neighbor was happy for her, he will make sure to see Nneka and the kids every two days, his name was Larry , Larry was a medical doctor, serving in Calaber, living low
key, when his father had one of the biggest hospitals in the country with branches scattered all of the country.
No one knows this, as he has always minded his business and a very humble guy.
After their Nysc, Larry traveled to the United States to do some medical training in his field Gynecology for two years, while Nneka continued to learn her fashion skills because the class was registered for three years. Larry had asked John about his plans for Nneka and he replied “ don’t mind that village girl, that came to spoil things for me, Larry had told John to make plans for Nneka and his kids, he refused to listen.
While Nneka continued to improve, Larry was her cheerleader, he kept supporting her and her kids, sending her money and encouraging her, when Nneka graduated from her fashion school Larry was there , he came back and proposed to her, they later got married had another kid, Nneka moved to Lagos to join Larry , Larry loved her, he opened a very big fashion house
for Nneka, why Larry started working in his father’s hospital in Lagos.
One day while Larry was passing by the hospital’s reception he saw someone that looked very familiar, when he walked closer to the patient, it was John, “ ah John , how are you?” Larry greeted him. Welcome
to my hospital! “You work here?” John asked him, “yes my father owns this place “ Larry replied him. “ you are lucky o” he said to Larry.
“What brought you here?” Larry asked him
Hmmm it’s a long story John said, I have aids already, I have been coming to take treatment here, since I discovered my health challenges” so sorry to hear that, as Larry went by the side to pick his call, it was Nneka calling him to remind him about a work machine they were supposed to shop for her business, Larry quickly told Nneka to rush to the hospital, that he has a surprise for her. She said she was coming now now. “You won’t believe who I just I just saw now? Just dress your best now and show up now honey “ he told Nneka laughing
.
Larry went back to John to continue their conversation, “what about Amy your girlfriend” John told him that Amy had left him since for a rich guy after their Nysc , I entered Lagos with her, but after sometimes , she told me she was engaged to his London boyfriend, I regret my actions, I started dating sugar mommies, I think one of them had infected me with the HIV, and I never knew, John was sad, looking so unkept and sad. “
Have you seen Nneka since then? He asked Larry as Nneka just appeared from no where looking gorgeous she went directly to hug and kiss
her husband, “welcome honey” Larry told her, shall we? Yes dear … Larry told John that he has an appointment with his wife, as John was looking at her with surprise, shame, he wanted to hide himself, but no where to hide, Larry told him that they might catch up sooner or later.
John was dumbfounded when he saw Nneka, was my eyes paining me? That’s My Nne, that’s my Nne he started crying, I left Nne and my kids, forgive me, he cried to himself, God why me, why me..
Larry and Nneka drove out of the place laughing. Nneka started singing praises to her husband inside the
, calling him “My Odogwu 1” of all men , chanting his name and thanking him for not allowing the world
to humiliate her and her children
