Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves are teaming up once again.

Beyond Fest at American Cinematheque 30th Anniversary Screening of SPEED, Q&A with Sandra Bullock, Keanu Reeves

Having previously starred together in 1994’s high-action thriller Speed and 2006’s romantic drama The Lake House, Bullock and Reeves, both 60, are set to reunite in an upcoming romantic thriller from Amazon MGM Studios, PEOPLE can confirm.

The script comes from Noah Oppenheim, who wrote Jackie Kennedy Onasis’ biopic Jackie and co-created the Robert De Niro-starring Netflix series Zero Day. Speed producer Mark Gordon is also attached to the project.

The duo recently celebrated the 30th anniversary of Speed at Beyond Fest while attending a screening at American Cinematheque at the Egyptian Theatre. Joined by Speed director Jan de Bont, 80, in a talkback onstage, Reeves and Bullock reminisced about filming.

In the 1994 film, Los Angeles police officer Jack (Reeves) tries to rescue passengers on a bus with a bomb that will explode if it drops below 50 miles per hour. Jack is aided by passenger Annie (Bullock) and his partner Harry (Jeff Daniels) in what becomes a fast-paced, tense showdown against vengeful extortionist Howard Payne (Dennis Hopper), who planted the bomb.

“We knew we were doing something wacky,” Reeves said of the film’s plot.

“I was behind the wheel of a projectile, so I was just happy to be alive at the end of the day,” joked Bullock.

On the possibility of a third film, which the Beyond Fest audience greeted with an enthusiastic round of applause, de Bont said, “I think it would be a different movie.” Nodding to Bullock and Reeves, he continued, “It would be great to work with them [again].”

Bullock noted that a Speed 3 would be “the geriatric version. It won’t be fast.”

Reeves reprises his role as John Wick in 2025’s Ana de Armas spinoff Ballerina and will play an angel in Aziz Ansari’s upcoming Good Fortune. He’s also producing BRZRKR, the comic book series he co-wrote with Matt Kindt, as a big-screen adaptation and anime series. Among Bullock’s upcoming projects is a sequel to Practical Magic costarring Nicole Kidman.
