A stranger brought flowers every day to a sick grandmother who had only a month to live: one day I decided to find out why he was doing this and was shocked by his answer.
I have been working as a nurse in a hospital for 10 years and have seen a lot, but I will never forget this couple.
We had a grandmother who was 70 years old. The doctors did not give her a chance – a month at most, or even less. But she held on, always smiling, joking, treating us to sweets and trying to support other patients.
The most amazing thing was that every day a man her age came to her with bouquets. Always different flowers: roses, daisies, tulips. At the sight of these flowers, the grandmother beamed like a girl, carefully took the bouquet and happily thanked them.
I noticed that he never stayed for long, he just gave flowers, said a few warm words and left. At some point, I couldn’t stand it any longer and asked him:
— Tell me, why do you bring flowers every day? We know you’re not her husband.
The man sighed heavily, his eyes shining with tears:
— Yes, you’re right. I have a wife, I’m not her husband. But I have to do this.
— Why? — I was surprised.
And he told me a story that gave me goosebumps.

It turns out that he was an old friend of her husband. The woman’s husband was in another hospital, bedridden, and couldn’t even get up. But all his life he gave his wife flowers — just like that, for no reason.
He knew how much she loved them, and he always said that her smile was the most beautiful thing in the world.
Now that he himself couldn’t do it, he asked his friend to carry out this mission for him. And he faithfully fulfilled the request, bringing the woman a new bouquet every day.
When I heard this story, my heart was breaking with pain and admiration. I told the head doctor everything, and soon we organized the transportation of this woman’s husband to us, to our hospital. They were placed in the same ward.
Since then, they were close again, holding hands and smiling at each other. The man no longer brought flowers every day – now her husband could see for himself how she smiled.
Unfortunately, the grandmother soon passed away. But her last days were filled with love, care and loyalty, which is stronger than even illness and time.
This story will forever remain in my memory as proof that true love exists.
