Hilaria Baldwin revealed how she and her stepdaughter Ireland Baldwin have forged a relationship over the years despite the awkward fact that Hilaria is only 11 years older than her stepdaughter.

On the Sunday, March 23, episode of The Baldwins, the 41-year-old wife of Alec Baldwin admitted that she and Ireland, 29, have both been able to find ‘humor’ in their odd situation.

‘My relationship with Ireland is, I feel like it’s unique for a stepmom and stepdaughter relationship, because that’s technically what we are,’ said Hilaria. ‘But first of all, I’m 11 years older than her. I didn’t raise her, and we find tremendous humor in that, and we always have found tremendous humor.’
The yoga instructor said she and Ireland — whom her husband shares with his ex-wife Kim Basinger — had a breakthrough after the birth of Ireland’s 22-month-old daughter Holland, which she and her boyfriend André Allen Anjos revealed in May of 2023.

Hilaria noted that she and Alec welcomed their youngest daughter, Ilaria Catalina Irena, in September 2022, around 11 months before Holland was born.

‘I haven’t seen Ireland in a long time because we live so far and we both had babies, and even though Alec met his new baby granddaughter, I haven’t met Holland until this little trip,’ she said of Ireland’s visit to New York. ‘We FaceTime all the time, we talk all the time, but we haven’t actually met up. And so we got all the kids together for a play date this morning.’

Hilaria added that it was ‘wonderful’ to be ‘pregnant together’ with Ireland, though their pregnancies ‘just barely’ overlapped.

‘So my baby is almost nine months older than Ireland’s baby, but my baby is Holland’s aunt, and Holland is my baby’s niece,’ she explained.

Hilaria went on to claim that her marriage to Alec simply wouldn’t have been tenable if she and Ireland didn’t get along well.

She recounted a conversation with the 30 Rock star before they got married in which she stated: ‘If [Ireland] doesn’t like me, I’m not staying ‘cause I’m not going to be wicked stepmother.’

She added that her ‘place in life is not to come into a family and cause problems.’

Although she emphasized that she ‘love[d]’ Alec and cherished their relationship, she had ‘too much respect for the family’ to make herself a part of it if Ireland gave her the cold shoulder.

Luckily, she found the model to be ‘such an amazing person’ who ‘immediately’ accepted her as part of the family, so it wasn’t an issue.

‘We’ve never fought,’ Hilaria even boasted, adding that their relationship has been ‘so easy.’

It helped that Ireland and both of her parents had already ‘moved on’ from their 2002 divorce and their infamous conflicts over the years.

Hilaria was in a particular secure place because Ireland already had a great relationship with her mother Kim, so she could take a friendlier role, rather than trying to be a surrogate parent.

Hilaria’s confession was featured as she and Alec were still doing damage control after a red carpet clip of their small marital spat recently went viral.

Last week in an interview with Extra, Baldwin’s wife snapped at him for inadvertently speaking over her while they attempted to answer a question from a reporter.

‘When I’m talking, you’re not talking!’ a comically annoyed Hilaria said not once, but twice, while clad in a snug-fitting lime green gown. In response, Alec sheepishly got quiet and walked away shortly after.

The couple had previously reemerged online with a different video addressing the incident, with the 30 Rock star taking accountability for ‘manterrupting’ his wife.

Alec wrote in the caption of the post, ‘Obviously @hilariabaldwin was joking…but I’m grateful to be the nicer half for a change. My apologies to the birds.’

Days after she scolded Alec for interrupting her on the red carpet, Hilaria sat down for a chat with Today where she expressed her frustration at not being able to voice her thoughts.

Discussing why the Baldwins have opened up their home for their new TLC reality series, she explained: ‘Since I met Alec a lot of people have spoken for me, have taken my narrative. I don’t want that anymore.’

‘This is an example for my children to hold your head up high and take control of your own narrative and we did it during a very vulnerable time,’ she added, referencing Alec’s involuntary manslaughter trial over the fatal shooting of Rust’s cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.

‘Every day is a process and every day is staying together and being together,’ Hilaria noted.

Alec and Hilaria are parents to seven kids: Carmen, 11, Rafael, nine, Leonardo, eight, Romeo, six, Eduardo and Marilu, four, and Ilaria, two.

Following the February 23 premiere of TLC’s The Baldwins, Alec enraged fans when he complained that his New York City penthouse is ‘too small’ for him, his wife, and their brood.

Despite the sprawling square footage of the family’s Devonshire House penthouse — which was purchased in 2011 for $11.7 million, per Curbed — the Saturday Night Live star and his loved ones are feeling cramped.

But sympathy for the Baldwins is hard to come by online, with fans taking to social media to express their unforgiving reactions to Alec’s complaint.

One person wrote on an X thread, ‘My wife & I raised 3 kids in a 1,300 sqft, 3 bedroom, 1 bathroom house. Poor guy just needs more space.’
